Khartoum, The Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mariam Al Sadiq Al-Mahdi, made today a phone call to the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide.
During the call, the Sudanese Foreign Minister gave an explanation about the latest developments in Sudan, the success of Paris conference and the announcement by the International Monetary Fund that Sudan had reached the decision point qualifying it to benefit from the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative.
Al-Mahdi also talked about Sudan's position regarding the negotiations of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the reasons that led it to ask the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session on the crisis.
For her part, the Norwegian Minister appreciated the efforts of the Sudanese transitional government, stressing her country's support for Sudan in its legitimate position on the Renaissance Dam, and calling on the three parties to engage in the negotiation process with the political will to resolve the dispute and reach a legal agreement that satisfies all parties.
