BAGHDAD, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in North Korea on Friday hoping for a clearer commitment from Pyongyang to nuclear disarmament after a historic summit that brought together leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump .
According to reporters covering the visit, Pompeo was greeted by his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong Ho and Kim Jong-chul, the second official of the regime, according to AFP.
Since his historic summit with Kim on June 12, Trump has appeared optimistic about the chances of peace on the divided Korean peninsula since the 1950-53 Korean War and stressed that the threat of a nuclear war is out of the question.
The Trump and Kim summit ended with a statement that did not specify any specific commitments and commissioned Pompeo to negotiate a program for a "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula.
