HM King is champion of workers’ rights: GPIC president

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC)'s President Abdulrahman Jawahery has met with the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (Al Hurr)'s Executive Board Chairman Yaqoub Yousif Mohammed and board member Ausama Salman Hassan.

Dr. Jawahery spoke about the solid structure of Bahrain's Labour Union activity, which was established since the launch of the National Action Charter and as part of the reforms project led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. "His Majesty is a champion of workers' rights and founded a comprehensive social justice system that reflected Bahrain's laws and legislations and the rights of workers and Labour Unions," he added.

Dr. Jawahery applauded the efforts of the Government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, in realization of His Majesty's vision.

The President said that Al Hurr had set an example of modern Labour Union action and co-operation between the Executive Management and the workers. He said the union had laid the foundation for new thinking in union work, which is unprecedented at the local and regional levels.

He also the constructive role of the GPIC's Labour Union and the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (Al Hurr) in defending labour issues within a national framework that balances the interests of workers and the nation.

Dr. Jawahery also praised the achievements of Al Hurr since it was set up in 2012. He said these achievements confirm the efficiency and excellence of its Executive Management.

He said Bahrain had become a model for Labour Union work that considers the interests of the workers and the work they do. He said the union works in defence of labour issues and the establishment of international relations with their counterparts all over the world.

The union also represents Bahrain at international forums and works to achieve more. He said it continues to raise the level of scientific support to the process of international Labour Union activities, which makes Bahrain proud, he said.

Dr. Jawahery said GPIC has always been confident of its people and realised efficiency alone might not be suitable for excellence at work. The Management would continue to work to support its workers and work towards providing opportunities for expertise, academic education and training aimed at providing those with sufficient skills to achieve and gain more.

During the last few years, GPIC has taken great strides in the field of development and training in terms of quantity and content, believing in the pivotal role of education and rehabilitation in supporting the comprehensive development process and to achieve the goal of investing in the human element as an engine for development and renaissance.

The company also shows keen interest in the development of Bahraini human resources by providing specialized courses at home and abroad, conducts workshops on all aspects of the petrochemical industry, and involves its employees in forums and gatherings.
