Palestinian government slams settlements in Silwan

The government has slammed recent plans by Israeli occupation authorities to build a settlement outpost and a synagogue in the neighborhood of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian news agency (WAFA) quoted the spokesman of the Palestinian Government, Yousef al-Mahmoud, as saying that the inauguration of the synagogue and the settlement outpost in Silwan neighborhood, with the participation of ministers in the [Benjamin] Netanyahu government, is one of the attempts of this extremist government to ignite a religious war that is strange to us and our country and our culture.

Al-Mahmoud called on the Arab and Islamic governments to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian citizens of Jerusalem, who are at risk of displacement and deportation from their homes and cities.

Recently, the Wadi Hilweh Information Centre said the occupation authorities had allocated millions of shekels to establish a settlement project in the village of Silwan, under the name of "Centre for the Heritage of the Jews of Yemen," in another step to promote settlements in Silwan south of the Aqsa Mosque, WAFA said.
