Two-month ban on fishing mackerel announced

Manama, The two-month ban on hauling and selling mackerel fish has today taken effect in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry announced the ban which will run until the 15th of October.

The ban aims at consolidating the reserves of mackerel and maintaining the marine bio life, said the Directorate of Agriculture and Marine Resources.

Under the two-month ban, selling mackerel fish will be prohibited in public places. Violators will be held accountable and face the penalties stipulated in the decree law 20 of 2002 on regulating fishing and protecting marine resources.

In a statement issued today, the Directorate of Agriculture and Marine Resources warned that it would take the necessary measures.

The ban is also in line with the resolution taken by the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee, stipulating that each member country shall take the necessary measures to protect the mackerel fish and ensure their reproduction.
