Caretaker National Defense Minister, Yaacoub al-Sarraf, on Thursday welcomed at his office the Brazilian State Minister for Strategic Affairs, Hussein Kalout, and an accompanying delegation, in the presence of Brazil's Ambassador to Lebanon, Georges Geraldo Qadri.
During the meeting, Minister Sarraf underlined the important role of Brazil and Brazilians of Lebanese origin in consecrating the friendly relations between the two countries, thanking Brazil for its contribution to the international forces operating within the UNIFIL in the South.
Sarraf affirmed in front of the delegation Lebanon's position rejecting attempts to tamper with its its sovereignty and adhering to its natural wealth.
Minister Kalout, who is of Lebanese origin, relayed to Sarraf the greetings of the Brazilian President Michel Tamer, and his desire to bolster cooperation between the two countries, notably in the defense and security levels.
He noted that Tamer's visit to Beirut would be during the second half of the month of October.
The Minister expressed his country's readiness to support the Lebanese military institution, through training courses and programs for exchange of experiences and information.
Kalout hailed the deeply rooted historic relations between Lebanon and Brazil.
On the other hand, Sarraf met with outgoing Australian Ambassador to Lebanon, Glenn Miles, who came on a farewell visit upon the end of his diplomatic mission in Lebanon.
