House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Friday sounded determined to establish two developmental councils for the Bekaa and Akkar, similar to the Council of the South.
Speaker Berri's words came during his meeting at his Ain el-Tineh residence with a delegation from Akkar and Wadi Khaled, including heads of Akkar's municipalities unions.
The delegation briefed the Speaker on the stringent needs of their underprivileged area.
Berri underlined that the establishment of developmental councils shall fundamentally contribute to the amelioration of conditions in said region.
The Speaker pledged to provide the region with all needed services, notably in terms of supporting the agricultural sector.
On the other hand, Berri welcomed at his Ain el-Tineh residence a delegation from St. Teresa's Christian Youth Group, headed by the General President of the Faithful Nuns Sister Mona Wazen.
