Baghdad, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bashir Haddad stressed the need to develop the Iraqi-Russian Friendship Association and expand cooperation between the two countries.
"We look forward to strengthening bilateral relations in all fields," Haddad said during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Baghdad Maxime Maximov, calling on Russia to "provide the necessary support, assistance and facilities for Iraqi students studying in Russian universities and increasing the number of seats."
"The two sides discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly peoples to serve the common interests of the two countries and the importance of exchanging experiences in the field of parliamentary work and assisting Iraq in the coming stage, " Haddad press office said in statement.
"We need to develop the Iraqi-Russian Friendship Association and expand cooperation and cultural exchanges," Haddad said, adding that "there are historical relations between us and we need to close these relations today."
For his part, Ambassador stressed "the importance of joint cooperation between the Iraqi parliament and the Russian Duma and the Federal Council and exchange visits between the two sides to benefit from the democratic experience in Russia, and the continuation of this cooperation between Baghdad and Moscow.
