Aoun meets Iraqi FM, highlights necessity of interArab solidarity

President Michel Aoun on Tuesday welcomed Iraqi Foreign Minister, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, with whom he discussed the means to bolster the Lebanese-Iraqi bilateral ties, highlighting the necessity of enhancing inter-Arab solidarity to face the current challenges.

"The challenges facing the Arab countries currently require the bolstering of solidarity among them, especially that what some Arab countries witnessed took a toll on the Arab unity and the joint Arab action," Aoun said during his meeting with al-Jaafari and the accompanying delegation, in presence of Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon, Ali al-Ameri.

The President underlined to his guest Lebanon's wish to promote the Lebanese-Iraqi relations in all fields.

He did not fail to felicitate al-Jaafari on the liberation of Iraq from terrorists, recalling Lebanon's experience along its borders.

He also boarded Lebanon's position from the displaced Syrians' dossier, stressing that Lebanon is currently working on organizing their voluntary return to the safe areas in Syria.

Tackling the regional situation, Aoun pointed to the "Israeli practices which breach the international resolutions, especially resolution 1701, in addition to the practices against the Palestinian people inside and outside the Occupied Lands."

"The Arab effort must focus on the necessity to reach just and permanent peace," he maintained.

On a different note, the President expressed relief over the opening of border Nassib crossing between Syrian and Jordan "after its coercive closure as a result of the fresh military developments."

For his part, al-Jaafari capitalized "the depth of the bilateral fraternal relations between the two countries," and the necessity to strengthen them on various levels.

He also heaped praise on President Aoun's stances delivered before regional and international instances.

Moreover, he thanked Lebanon for its permanent support for Iraq.

"Iraq stands beside Lebanon's unity, sovereignty and independence," al-Jaafari said.
