Consumer Protection Law obligations highlighted

Manama, In order to raise the private sector awareness about the Consumer Protection Law 35/2012 and its obligations to both merchants and consumers, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI)'s Food Wealth Committee headed by Khalid Al Amin in cooperation with the Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, have held a seminar on the "Consumer Protection Law" at Bait Al Tijjar.

The seminar was delivered by Director of Consumer Protection Directorate Sinan Al Jaber and Head of Consumer Awareness Safa Safar. They highlighted the main role of the consumer Protection Directorate, which is to ensure a transparent and fair relation between merchants and consumers.

The rights of consumers including the right to health and safety in the normal use of products, the right to obtain accurate information about the product, right to free choice, and respect of his/her privacy where underlined.

The obligations and responsibility of retailers were underlined. Also, obligation of issuing invoices and providing accurate information about the product or service, and valid warranties even during promotional periods, and advertising the product's price and guarantee period.
