European Official: Sanctions On Iran Affect Iraq’s Security

BAGHDAD, US sanctions against Iran could affect the security and stability of Iraq and Afghanistan, European Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova said.

"Sanctions may ultimately affect the security and stability of countries like Iraq," Jourova said at a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

The United States re-imposed sanctions on Iran on November 5 and concerns two vital sectors for Tehran - oil and banks - as well as 700 personalities and entities.

The US administration aims that Iranian oil exports to reach zero.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that his country temporarily excluded 8 countries from the ban on dealing with Iran.

The US administration has given Iraq a temporary 45-day exemption from sanctions to allow Iraq to continue to buy natural gas and electricity from Iran.
