OIC calls on confronting violence against women

Jeddah, Secretary-General of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen called on the OIC Member States to confront violence against women by continuing to take the necessary measures to prevent such practices which are incompatible with the principles of Islam.

The International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Violence against Women was an opportunity to assess achievements and commitments to stop violence against women in all its forms and to provide them with the necessary support to combat such practices, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Al-Othaimeen pointed out that the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women this year comes in line with OIC preparations to hold the 7th session of the Ministerial Conference on Women Role in Development.

The conference will be held in the Member States on November 30- December 1 , in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, "Empowering Women in Member States: Challenges and Prospects which will provide an opportunity for Member States, OIC institutions and partner institutions to discuss various issues and challenges related to the empowerment of women in Member States.
