Caretaker Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, met Friday with the Holy See's Secretary of State, Foreign Minister, Cardinal Paul Richard Gallagher, with whom he discussed the subject of Syrian refugees and the need to facilitate and encourage their return to their homeland, in order to alleviate their sufferings and ease security and economic burdens on Lebanon.
Around a million and a half displaced Syrians and half a million displaced Palestinians are currently present in Lebanon.
Cardinal Gallagher promised to convey Lebanon's point of view in this regard at the international podiums, especially European countries and the United States.
For his part, Minister Bassil pointed out that Lebanon endures the impact of displacement, saying the country cannot carry on with this situation.
Bassil said Lebanon is only demanding not to hinder the safe return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland and to continue to financially help them in their safe villages and towns.
