Baghdad, The head of the Border Ports Authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, discussed with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Iraq Abdul-Aziz Al-Shimmari, the measures and preparations taken to open Arar border crossing to commercial traffic between the two countries.
Al-Waeli stressed, during his meeting with the Saudi ambassador, the depth of the historical relations between the two countries at various levels, and appreciated the Kingdom’s role and its support in the achievement of the border crossing, which is considered one of the model ports and that it is equipped with integrated infrastructure.
He added: “Opening the port to commercial traffic between the two countries in the next few days, after obtaining the directive to open it by the prime minister, will benefit both parties economically, followed by quick steps to stimulate the movement of travelers to perform Hajj and Umrah rituals through the border crossing.”
For his part, Ambassador Al-Shimmari expressed his happiness for strengthen the ties of brotherhood between the two countries, which have ties of cooperation, understanding and brotherhood over the years, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seeks to expand the scope of commercial cooperation by opening other border outlets, which are under serious study by the Saudi leadership.
The two sides agreed to provide the logistical requirements for the continuity of work at Arar border crossing, in addition to enhancing the security situation and working to prepare human resources and put them in training courses to ensure the safe and scientific use of the equipment available at the port to ensure the smooth flow of commercial movement between the two sides.
