Oil Minister: Iraq is committed to the principles laid down by “OPEC” since its foundation

Baghdad, Oil Minister Ihssan Abdul Jabbar emphasized the great and influential role of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in stabilizing global oil markets, and that Iraq is always looking forward to achieving more cooperation with member producers in the organization to achieve common goals.

In a telegram of congratulations to his OPEC counterparts on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the organization in Baghdad in 1960, the oil Minister said: “Iraq has contributed with OPEC members, since its inception, to formulating the main principles of this organization and adhering to them in order to achieve Common interests and goals, these principles that emphasized the importance of producing countries’ sovereignty over their oil wealth and harnessing their financial revenues in order to advance the economic and developmental reality of their countries, pointing to the importance of dialogue and cooperation with other producers from within and outside the organization, with the aim of realistically addressing the challenges and crises that plague the market Oil, and work to find effective solutions to ensure stability and balance. ”

He indicated that Iraq is looking forward to hosting the OPEC celebration on the occasion of the 60th anniversary in Baghdad, Dar es Salaam, before the end of the year, and in the People’s Hall that hosted the founding meeting in 1960, in addition to hosting the ministerial meeting of “OPEC” and “OPEC Plus”, and we hope an intense presence of Ministers Oil and Energy in the producing countries, as well as those interested in the oil and energy industry and a number of important figures and the media, as the Ministry prepared a distinguished celebration curriculum befitting this occasion.

For his part, Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammed Barkindo stressed the importance of celebrating this occasion, which witnessed the birth of OPEC 60 years ago in Baghdad, and was an important historical event, and an important beginning for the gathering and solidarity of oil-producing countries and unifying their positions to put an end to the dominance of the major oil companies over the wealth of the producing countries, praising the role of the founding countries of the organization, namely “Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Venezuela” who laid the ideal foundations and principles for cooperation between oil-producing countries and which positively affected the stability of the global oil market.

Barkindo expressed his hope that the celebration of this occasion will be held in Baghdad, which witnessed the birth of “OPEC”, and we look forward to meeting all of us in the People’s Hall to emphasize the importance of cooperation among all. ”
