The Syrian Foreign Minister arrives in Baghdad on an official visit

The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, arrived in Baghdad, today, Saturday, on an official visit.

The Syrian News Agency "SANA" stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad, arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on an official visit, in response to an invitation from the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, to hold talks with the Iraqi leadership and senior Iraqi officials with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to SANA, the minister was received by the Iraqi Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry, senior officials in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, and the Syrian ambassador to Iraq.

Al-Miqdad is accompanied by some directors of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates during the visit.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, had announced earlier today, Saturday, that the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, will arrive in Baghdad this evening, to start his visit program tomorrow morning, as he will meet with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and then meet with the three presidencies and the PM, and head of the Supreme Judicial Council".

It said that the visit will focus on bilateral relations between Baghdad and Damascus, and the role of Iraq in restoring Syria to its seat in the Arab League. The two ministers will also discuss ways to advance relations to areas that are consistent with the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
