Jeddah: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has sent a cable of congratulations to President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of his winning in the presidential elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques said: 'On the occasion of your winning in the presidential elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran, we are pleased to send Your Excellency our sincere congratulations and best wishes for success. We look forward to continuing to develop the relations that bind our two brotherly countries and peoples and to continuing coordination and consultation in order to enhance regional and international security and peace. Progressive Socialist Party Head, MP Taymour Jumblatt, chaired a meeting of the party's leadership councils, commissioners, interior representatives and party-supporting institutions, held today at Al-Mukhtara Palace to discuss the general situation in light of developments related to the continued Israeli aggression against Gaza and its threats to expand the scope of its ongoing military attacks on Lebanon. Jumblatt touched on the prevailing situation, which he described as 'very delicate and sensitive,' referring to the escalating risks as long as a settlement is not reached to stop the war after nine months of brutal Israeli aggression against the steadfast Palestinian people and the ongoing attacks on Lebanon and the southern regions in particular. While reiterating his party's historical and principled position in support of the Palestine cause and in confronting the Israeli occupation, Jumblatt underlined the need for a complete ceasefire and full respect for the rights of the Palestinians, and emphas ized at the Lebanese level respect for UN Resolution 1701 and the restoration of the Armistice Agreement and support for the role played by UNIFIL in reducing border escalation. Regarding the presidential elections dossier, the MP stressed that 'the Democratic Gathering Bloc and the Progressive Socialist Party will continue the communication movement with all political parties in an effort to reach common denominators and a formula acceptable to all that will lead to the election of a President of the Republic, to be the gateway to regularizing the work of institutions and structuring the state...' He affirmed the need to agree on a realistic approach to the economic, social and financial crises, re-activate the Lebanese economic wheel, place the country on the right track for progress, and ensure the return of depositors' lost rights. In this context, Jumblatt believed that resolving the presidential issue, which is burdened with various conditions and contradictions, requires raising political and nationa l responsibility to higher standards, as necessitated by the risks surrounding the nation, which calls for abandoning obstruction and joining efforts in the direction of saving Lebanon. Bahaa Rafik Hariri affirmed that it is impossible for him to cooperate with the corrupt political class in Lebanon, in wake of its proven deficiency in presenting any rescue project for the country. He added that the recent parliamentary elections did not yield any achievement or change at all levels. Speaking to a large number of northern delegations and activists, Hariri considered that the Sunni sect is the origin of moderation in the country, pledging to 'remain on this path through acceptance of the other despite the differences, without giving up our rights." He went on to affirm that he loves and holds his brother, Saad (former Lebanese Prime Minister), dear to his heart, but deemed his joining of the 'quadripartite alliance' as the beginning of the problem...He considered that such a step does not represent the path of their late father, martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, during whose term the country was doing well, as he indicated. Hariri revealed that part of his reform project is to raise the educational level in the public and private sectors in Lebanon, stressing his 'determination to launch advanced and unconventional projects that contribute to the fight against corruption and serve the Lebanese citizen in completing transactions remotely.' He reiterated his plans to launch economic, industrial and agricultural projects, particularly projects that the northern region mainly depends on and which will provide job opportunities for young graduates. Referring to the recent presidential elections in the Iranian Islamic Republic, Hariri considered that we seem to be on the verge of witnessing radical change in Iran, demonstrated through the victory of the moderate team in the elections and the arrival of a new reformist president for Iran. House Speaker Nabih Berri cabled today the Leader of the Revolution in Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the President-elect of the Iranian Islamic Republic, Masoud Pezeshkian, congratulating them on the completion of the presidential elections. Berri considered that through achieving these elections, the Iranian Republic - under its rational and wise leadership and through its people - has proven that it is great and ancient in practicing democracy in its finest forms and manifestations, just as it is great in its revolution. The House Speaker asked the Lord Almighty to grant the new Iranian president success in performing his presidential duties, adding, 'May the Islamic Republic, its revolution, its leaders, and its people, witness further progress, stability, and capability.'
