Architecture graduates Mahmoud Abu Hammad and Amani Issa design the ‘Al-Quds University Teaching Hospital’ project

Students Abu Hammad and Issa wrote: "The southeast Jerusalem community suffers from a weak health infrastructure, which includes only simple health centers. This makes obtaining treatment a major challenge facing the residents of the area due to the difficulty of reaching one of the hospitals in the West Bank or the hospitals in occupied Jerusalem. Al-Quds University includes the Faculties of Medicine and Health Professions, whose students constitute the largest percentage of the university, and they need clinical training services under the supervision of the teaching staff to obtain continuous and effective practical training. After studying the needs of the population and students, the proposal was to design Al-Quds University Teaching Hospital as a model that combines education and treatment, to provide an educational opportunity and benefit the local community, integrate the university environment with its surroundings, and meet the health needs of the population. It includes the most important emerg ency medical departments (emergency, laboratories, medical imaging, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, kidneys, and physical therapy). Through this project, we seek to improve health care in the South East Jerusalem community and provide a practical educational experience for students. The project includes therapeutic spaces interspersed with many community and educational spaces. Source: Maan News Agency
