Heavy rains kill 11, leave 14 missing in northeast China

S. Korean author wins William Saroyan International Prize for Writing

Seoul, Mirinae Lee has won the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing, a prestigious U.S. book award for rising writers, to become the first South Korean national to achieve the feat. "8 Lives of a Century-Old Trickster," a novel by Lee published last year, won the biennial award administered by Stanford University Libraries and the William Saroyan Foundation, along with "Orphan Bachelors," a memoir by Chinese American author Fae Myenne Ng. Inspired by the true story of Lee's great aunt, who escaped alone from North Korea, her novel centers around stories of life in the Demilitarized Zone that separates North and South Korea, Yonhap reported. "Lee's characters are so fascinating and complicated that the need to decipher them and unravel their mysteries generates unexpected suspense and a desire to rush toward the answers, but her lyrical and evocative prose simultaneously demands a slow savoring of each page," judges of the Saroyan Prize fiction said. They called Lee's book "a beautifully complex story of human frailty and strength." Lee, who is currently based in Hong Kong, finished her elementary, middle and high school education in South Korea before moving to the United States to study English literature in college. Brighton defeats Manchester United 2-1 in Premier League

Kuwait Interior Ministry: We continue to monitor, block scam websites

Kuwait, The Ministry of Interior of Kuwait confirmed on Saturday that it monitors and blocks "scam websites" and take all necessary legal measures to combat these illegal activities The General Department of Security Relations and Media said in a press statement that the Department of Combating Cybercrime, in cooperation with relevant authorities, was able to remove about 392 scam websites, including 52 websites that impersonate (Al-Durra) domestic workers company The Department also blocked more than 662 fraudulent Kuwaiti (WhatsApp) numbers, 65 percent of which were impersonating the company, KUNA reported. The Ministry called on everyone to deal with trusted websites only and verify their credibility before making any purchases or authentications through the (Kuwait Mobile ID) application or any other sites. It stressed the importance of reading the site name and being careful in dealing with (Wix sites), that are made by the free online web creator Wix, to ensure the protection of their financial and p ersonal information and not fall victims of fraudulent operations It also called on everyone to contact the Cybercrime Department via (WhatsApp) service on the number (97283939) or the department's account on social media platforms (@ECCCD) to request assistance.
