Berri discusses Gaza, presidential stalemate with Egyptian Ambassador

The members of the mi nisterial committee discussed the importance of providing continued support to activate recognition of the Palestinian state to ensure that the entitled rights of the Palestinian people are met and to promote security and peace in the region and the world in the face of extremism, the spread of violence, and the continued violations of international law. The meeting reviewed the urgent efforts to take the necessary steps to implement the two-state solution by establishing a Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in light of the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international initiatives. The members of the Ministerial Committee stressed the need for the Israeli occupation army to withdraw from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphi Corridor and to restore complete control to the Palestinian Authority. The meeting also discussed the efforts made to stop Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the dangerous escalation in the West Ba nk. The meeting also emphasized the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the entry of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip. The meeting stressed the need to stop the expansion of Israeli settlements and activate international accountability mechanisms for all violations of international law and international humanitarian law in a way that achieves just and comprehensive peace, preserves the rights of the Palestinian people, and achieves security in the region. The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers and representatives of the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Slovenia, and Ireland and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Josep Borrell.
