Iraq And Russia Sign A MoU In The Field Of Peaceful Use Of Atomic Energy

The Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Aboudi signed a memorandum of understanding with the Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) Alexei Likhachev, in the fields of bilateral cooperation. According to a statement by the ministry, on the sidelines of the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Al-Aboudi announced that this memorandum is the first of its kind in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy that Iraq has signed after 2003 and is the first for the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission after the enactment of its law. He continued that the bilateral memorandum of understanding is of particular importance as it is a roadmap for joint work in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy, stressing the importance of its success and implementing its paragraphs in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries, noting that Iraq and its specialized educat ional institutions are keen to support the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear engineering and organize the context of cooperation with the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) in this field, appreciating at the same time the provision of scholarships for Iraqi students to develop specialized technical cadres in Iraq.
