Riyadh: Al-Hanateen Dunes, situated along the newly constructed Rafha-Hail road, 160 kilometers southwest of Rafha Governorate, are recognized as one of the region's most significant natural landmarks. These dunes are notable for their towering sand formations and scenic desert landscapes, coupled with a historical connection to an ancient trade route within the northern Arabian Peninsula.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Antiquities Association member Abdulrahman Al-Tuwaijri highlighted that Al-Hanateen Dunes are located alongside an ancient trade path known as the western trade route. This route traverses the Al-Nafud Desert, stretching from Turbah to Al-Hayaniyah, and then crossing areas like Al-Huzul, Al-Majamir, and Al-Ruhaymi before reaching Kufa. Although this route presented challenges due to fewer water sources, its remoteness from the main paths offered safety, making it a favored choice for smaller caravans and travelers.
The site uniquely blends natural elements with historical heritage, providing scenic vistas and tourism experiences that captivate visitors and attract those interested in exploration and desert activities.
