Al-Kharj Emerges as Promising Rural Tourism Destination

Al-kharj: Al-Kharj Governorate is witnessing growing interest in rural tourism, driven by its natural and agricultural assets, which have enhanced its profile as an attractive domestic tourism destination. This comes amid rising demand for tranquil, nature-based experiences and rural lifestyles.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Al-Kharj is distinguished by its long-standing agricultural history, the abundance of date palm farms, its association with ancient water springs, and its geographic proximity to Riyadh. These factors make it an ideal option for day trips and short getaways, giving it a competitive edge on the Kingdom's rural tourism map.

Within this context, a number of farm owners in the governorate have begun transforming their properties into integrated rural tourism projects. These initiatives focus on offering distinctive experiences that combine hospitality, recreation, and physical activity within open natural settings that reflect the spirit of the place and its agricultural identity.

The farms include various facilities, such as caf©s and restaurants with a rural character, walking and horseback riding trails, and interactive activities that encourage visitors to stay active and connect with nature.

During a Saudi Press Agency tour of one rural project in Al-Kharj Governorate, known for its agricultural diversity and relaxation areas, the project stood out for its use of natural environmental materials such as wood, stone, and treated clay. It also highlighted date palms as a central aesthetic element. This approach reinforces local identity and achieves visual harmony with the surrounding natural environment, alongside the presence of camels and horses as cultural symbols within activities and design elements.

This trend reflects the growth of experiential tourism, offering visitors integrated experiences that combine relaxation and activity. It also contributes to enhancing quality of life, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify the economy and support domestic tourism.
