The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, confirmed that Iraq seeks balanced relations with all friendly nations, including the Russian Federation, while noting the necessity of working to strengthen these relations to include all fields.
The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition said in a statement, “The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received today in his office the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev,” noting that “during the meeting, opinions and viewpoints were exchanged about Russia’s relations with Iraq and mutual visits between officials of the two friendly countries.” Regional and international developments and the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war were also reviewed.
According to the statement, the head of the State of Law coalition expressed his “appreciation for the importance of Iraqi-Russian relations, and Baghdad’s pursuit of balanced relations with all friendly nations, including the Russian Federation,” stressing “the necessity of working to strengthen these relations to include all fields.”
For his part, the Russian ambassador affirmed his country's "desire to develop partnership and cooperation relations with Iraq," expressing his "hope for continued communication in various frameworks and fields to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples."
