Riyadh: Almojermah village in Al-Lith Governorate, Makkah Region, stands out as one of the Kingdom's premier destinations for falconry enthusiasts, serving as an annual gathering for falcons and falconers from across the regions and reviving an authentic Arab heritage that reflects the deep bond between humans and nature while preserving hunting skills passed down through generations.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Almojermah is distinguished by its unique location on the Red Sea coast, where soft sands stretch between coastal plains and coral reef areas. This environment makes it ideal for training falcons and embarking on hunting trips during the winter migration season.
With the mild climate at this time of year, Almojermah sees large gatherings of falconers who set up their camps along the sand dunes. This traditional atmosphere, where the spirit of hunting blends with the beauty of the marine and desert landscape, transforms the area into a living painting that reflects the Kingdom's heritage and authentic cultural identity.
During these gatherings, falconers are keen to teach young people the techniques of falconry and the art of training. They emphasize that falconry is more than a hobby or sport; it is a cultural heritage symbolizing patience, precision, and loyalty between the falconer and the bird, reinforcing the values of belonging and pride in national heritage. This practice is globally recognized, having been inscribed by UNESCO in 2010 on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Almojermah is also one of the most important bird migration stations in the Kingdom. It constitutes a rich environmental site that attracts migratory birds from Africa, Europe, and Asia, providing essential food and shelter before they continue their long journeys.
The Saudi Falcons Club supports this heritage by organizing periodic competitions and training programs to develop skills and encourage youth. It also implements initiatives to protect falcons and preserve their natural environment in cooperation with government agencies, contributing to environmental balance.
