Riyadh: As the hunting season approaches in October, desert areas in Northern Borders Region are preparing to welcome a new falcon hunting season, with growing numbers of enthusiasts from across the Kingdom and the Gulf countries. Al-Hammad area stands out as a prominent destination for its open desert expanse and its location along falcon migration routes.
According to Saudi Press Agency, falconers organize their gear and ready their trapping tools well before the season, using methods and expertise passed down through generations. The Manashbiyyah is among the primary trapping tools, while the Milwah is used for training and calling the bird. The net and decoy pigeons are also used to lure falcons toward the intended trapping path.
A falconer's kit also includes equipment for carrying, caring for, and handling the bird, including the Burqa (hood), the Sabooq (tether), the Wakr (perch), and the Dass (glove), all of which have become essential parts of the falconry tradition in the region.
