Aseer: Aseer Region is witnessing a range of social, sports, and cultural activities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, contributing to strengthening social cohesion, promoting the spirit of participation and volunteerism, and offering diverse programs that meet the aspirations of residents and visitors alike.
According to Saudi Press Agency, historically, welcoming Ramadan in Aseer has been characterized by a strong sense of community and social solidarity, as families cooperated in preparing homes, stocking food supplies, and readying mosques to receive worshippers for Tarawih and night prayers.
This year, Governor of Aseer Region Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz launched the fourth edition of the 'Ajawid' initiative, which aims to stimulate volunteer work and community initiatives across the region's governorates and to strengthen the role of society in social, cultural, and environmental development through six tracks: tourism destinations, investment, community development, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, and urban design.
The initiative serves as a competitive platform for charitable and social projects throughout Ramadan, encouraging youth and families to actively participate in serving the community and promoting the values of solidarity and unity.
Among the anticipated Ramadan activities are Ramadan sports tournaments. In the days leading up to the holy month, Aseer's popular markets transform into vibrant social hubs, offering local food products and traditional Ramadan dishes, as well as opportunities for home-based entrepreneurs and artisans, and spaces for social interaction among families and friends.
This reflects a continuation of the long-standing tradition of community gatherings in popular markets to strengthen social ties and exchange food items. Aseer also hosts cultural activities focusing on heritage and local customs, including heritage evenings in historical villages that showcase traditional crafts and folk stories.
Workshops and lectures on the history and heritage of southern Saudi Arabia are being organized, in addition to literary gatherings and talks on Ramadan values. These activities enrich the Ramadan experience and introduce visitors and residents to Aseer's cultural identity.
The region's efforts to welcome Ramadan this year reflect harmonious integration of social, sports, and cultural activities, underscoring its commitment to offering a rich and comprehensive Ramadan experience for residents and visitors while preserving the historical legacy that has maintained authentic Ramadan traditions across generations.
