China: Three people have been confirmed dead, and 558 are missing following a significant mudslide at a border port connecting China and Nepal in the Xizang region of southwestern China. Chinese authorities have responded by initiating a large-scale rescue operation and have activated a level II emergency response for geological disasters.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the emergency management office in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, reported that the disaster has severed road connections to the port on the Chinese side and has caused disruptions in communications and power supplies. A team has been dispatched to the affected area to coordinate ongoing rescue efforts and to prevent possible secondary disasters.
In a related development, Nepalese authorities announced this morning that at least 162 individuals have lost their lives due to torrential floods that have swept across the border region shared with China. Hundreds of tourists, workers, and other individuals remain unaccounted for, while travel has been halted in some affected areas.
