China, a unified and multi-ethnic nation, is home to 56 ethnic groups that have collectively contributed to the country's vast territorial development, cultural richness, and national spirit.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, President Xi Jinping emphasized that all ethnic groups in China enjoy equal rights across political, economic, social, and cultural fields, irrespective of their population size or economic development. China maintains a system of regional ethnic autonomy that allows all ethnic groups to participate equally in state affairs, promoting harmonious coexistence and integration across diverse fields.
China's efforts to eradicate poverty have been inclusive, ensuring that no ethnic group is left behind. Recent initiatives have successfully lifted all 420 counties in ethnic autonomous regions and 31.21 million people out of poverty, achieving significant milestones in regions like Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Guizhou. These efforts are complemented by policies enhancing self-reliance among ethnic groups, promoting equitable sharing of modernization benefits.
Chinese culture, a mosaic of contributions from all ethnicities, is preserved through dedicated efforts to protect cultural heritage. China has allocated substantial resources to conserve cultural sites in Xicang and translated ancient texts into Chinese and Uyghur languages. A significant portion of Chinese intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO is attributed to ethnic minority cultures, underscoring the importance of mutual cultural exchange.
Education is pivotal in fostering development and social equity among nationalities. In regions like Xicang and Xinjiang, significant strides have been made in increasing school enrollment and literacy rates, ensuring access to education on an equal footing. Boarding schools are being established to cater to students in remote areas, providing necessary support to guarantee equal educational opportunities.
The enactment of the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress in 2026 further cemented the legal framework supporting ethnic equality and development. This law consolidates achievements in ethnic relations and provides a legal guarantee for the rights of all ethnic groups, fostering unity and progress in pursuit of the Chinese Dream.
