Riyadh: Chinese resident in the Kingdom, Liu Jingxi, shared his experience of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, which has continued for more than 24 years since his arrival in the Kingdom in 2002.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Liu described his experience in the Kingdom as a deep cultural, social, and spiritual journey that reflects the values of Saudi society and its humanitarian character. He noted that Ramadan in the Kingdom is marked by solidarity and compassion among members of society. This spirit is evident in the widespread iftar tents at mosques and along roads, where meals are provided to fasting individuals, creating scenes of cooperation and generosity across streets and neighborhoods.
Liu explained that his Ramadan day begins with suhoor, which he described as an important moment that provides the strength needed to continue fasting throughout the day. After performing the Fajr prayer, he begins his daily work, benefiting from the calm of the morning to focus on his tasks.
Despite his long residence in the Kingdom, Liu ensures to include some Chinese dishes at the iftar table. 'My family and I prepare traditional Chinese meals, and I often receive invitations from Saudi friends to join them for iftar and suhoor, which adds a social dimension to the holy month,' he said. He usually begins iftar with dates, Zamzam water, and Saudi coffee, along with Ramadan foods and sweets such as sambousek, Vimto, and rice, served alongside Chinese dishes.
Liu concluded by saying that his Ramadan experience in the Kingdom has been unique and enriching, allowing him to closely observe Ramadan customs and participate with the community in its traditions during the holy month.
