Civil Defense Marks 100 Years of Service, Highlights Vision 2030 Achievements

Makkah: The Ministry of Interior's General Directorate of Civil Defense celebrates its centenary this Tuesday (1346 AH - 1447 AH), an occasion that coincides with the Kingdom's hosting of the World Championship in Fire and Rescue Sport next week.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this centenary affirms the vital humanitarian and societal role of the Civil Defense, which traces its history to the establishment of the first fire brigade in Makkah in 1346 AH. The sector's unprecedented achievements are a result of the unwavering support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as the continuous follow-up of the minister of interior.

Over the past century, Civil Defense has undergone major organizational and operational transformations, with its centennial journey now aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. Its strategic vision includes initiatives that have enhanced service levels in line with international best practices and the highest standards of institutional excellence.

The Civil Defense plays a crucial role in preserving lives and protecting property during peacetime, disasters, and major events such as Hajj and Umrah. This is achieved by raising public awareness and implementing safety and prevention standards to ensure safe and sustainable living.

The sector is heavily investing in modern technologies to enhance operational efficiency. This includes using artificial intelligence for data analysis and risk prediction, as well as deploying advanced equipment such as drones with aerial detection systems for radioactive and chemical leaks and firefighting robots for high-risk, hard-to-reach locations. These digital applications represent a major leap in improving public safety and mitigating risks before they occur.

Investing in personnel has been a top priority since the establishment of the first firefighting and rescue school in Makkah in 1375 AH. Today, this commitment continues through significant training and development efforts to enhance the expertise and preparedness of Civil Defense personnel. Notably, a women's training center has been established to empower women and enhance their participation in the sector.

The nation also honors the sacrifices of its heroes who have given their lives in the line of duty.
