Dakar Saudi Arabia 2026: Title-Holder Al Rajhi among Early Withdrawals

Dakar: The Dakar Rally 2026 in Saudi Arabia has already claimed several high-profile retirements, including defending Dakar champion Yazeed Al Rajhi. According to Saudi Press Agency, Overdrive Racing's Al Rajhi withdrew early after his vehicle suffered multiple tire punctures, costing him crucial time across several stages that spanned various regions of the Kingdom, including AlUla. Germany's Daniel Schroder of PS Laser Racing also exited the rally after an unfortunate rollover accident left his vehicle damaged and prevented him from continuing the remaining stages. The bike category has been hit hardest, with a string of retirements in the early stages. Spanish rider Lorenzo Santolino of Sherco Rally Factory started it, withdrawing due to irreparable damage to his bike, followed by teammate Harith Noah from India, who required urgent surgery. French rider Nicolas Horeaux of Nomade Racing sustained multiple fractures to his shoulder and pelvis, forcing him to abandon the rally in the first stage. Other e arly bike exits include Spain's Ricardo Lastra of Old Friends Rally, who fell off his bike but is in stable condition out of danger; Britain's James Hillier of Muc-Off Racing due to an arm injury; and Slovakian rider Stefan Svitko of Slovnaft Rally, who suffered a right shoulder injury after a crash in the first stage. In the truck category, the 4x4 team comprising Saudi driver Bader Albarrak and French teammates Marco Piana and Paco Fernandez withdrew without citing specific reasons and, fortunately, no incidents were reported. Spanish racers Raul Pascual and Marco Antonio Cabrera of Pedregà Team also left the competition under unclear circumstances. The seventh annual Dakar Saudi Arabia presses on through a mix of challenging desert tracks, traversing regions with diverse landscapes such as AlUla. With the early exit of last year's champion, the upcoming stages promise an open battle and a new title holder to emerge.
