Hanoi:Denmark's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen, has strongly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, highlighting their impact on civilian infrastructure and threats to commercial shipping.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Lassen expressed deep concern over the escalating clashes across several battlefronts in Yemen and the worsening humanitarian situation. She attributed the escalation to the Houthis and urged them to cease all attacks immediately.
Lassen pointed out Iran's longstanding support for the Houthis, stating that it fuels the crisis and undermines peace efforts in Yemen, while also posing a risk to regional stability. She emphasized the need for greater efforts to contain the Houthis' destructive capabilities effectively.
Addressing the illicit transfer of weapons and military support to the Houthis, Lassen expressed hope for stricter enforcement of the sanctions expected to be renewed. She stressed that the Houthis' actions have hindered the United Nations' efforts to operate and provide assistance in Yemen, underscoring the importance of compliance with international law.
Lassen advocated for an inclusive political process under UN auspices as the only sustainable resolution to the conflict. She called on the Houthis to halt their attacks, engage constructively, and help alleviate the prolonged humanitarian suffering in Yemen.
