Eight Cities Present Innovative Development Plans at Arab European Dialogue in Riyadh

Riyadh: The Arab European Cities Dialogue, recently held in Riyadh, featured presentations from eight Arab and European cities showcasing their development projects to several international financing institutions. This initiative aimed to establish direct communication and foster collaboration with donor agencies. The total value of the presented and anticipated projects for financing was estimated at approximately SAR6.2 billion.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Chisinau presented a restoration project of its mill, aiming to revitalize the city's only heritage industrial building into a creative hub. Djibouti showcased its 'City Without Waste' project, which is focused on waste management and recycling.

Ramallah introduced a solid waste sorting station project to improve infrastructure and reduce transportation, while Nice revealed its tram line 4 extension project aimed at enhancing public transport.

Madrid unveiled its 'Madrid Nuevo Norte' project to transform industrial areas into sustainable, multi-use urban spaces. Dammam showcased a rehabilitating project designed to enhance infrastructure and safety of pedestrians and cyclists in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Erbil presented plans for a bike-friendly city with dedicated infrastructure, and Nouakchott proposed a climate adaptation fund supporting green urban projects like solar energy and urban agriculture.

This direct interaction between cities and funding institutions was one of the forum's key outcomes, highlighting the cities' capacity to present actionable, high-impact initiatives. It opened new opportunities for creating sustainable development partnerships that address the evolving climatic and economic challenges facing cities.
