European Parliament Urges EU to Classify Houthis as Terrorist Organization

Brussels:Members of the European Parliament have adopted a resolution condemning Houthi missile and UAV attacks on Saudi Arabia, demonstrating solidarity with the kingdom and support for Yemen's legitimate government. The resolution emphasizes the importance of security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity for both countries.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the resolution, passed on Thursday, labels the attacks by the Houthis as flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law. It highlights the severe humanitarian impact, noting that these actions have resulted in numerous casualties and displacement among Yemeni civilians, worsening the nation's humanitarian crisis.

The European Parliament's resolution calls on the Council of the European Union to list the Houthi group, including its political and military branches, as a terrorist organization. This designation would involve dismantling the group's funding channels and freezing its financial assets and those of entities aiding its operations.

Furthermore, the resolution urges the Houthis to cease hostilities within and beyond Yemen and to relinquish any territorial ambitions. It also condemns attacks on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure and commercial vessels in critical maritime regions like the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Lastly, the resolution advocates for enhanced security and defense cooperation between the EU and its Gulf partners, reflecting a commitment to regional stability and peace.
