Mecca: French club RC Lens have activated the purchase option for the permanent transfer of Saudi international Saud Abdulhamid, keeping him at the club until 2029 following an impressive loan spell from Italian side AS Roma.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Lens announced that the decision to secure Abdulhamid came after a strong season where the player was instrumental in helping the club win the Coupe de France and qualify for the next season's UEFA Champions League. The club highlighted his significant contributions throughout the campaign as a key figure in the squad.
Abdulhamid initially joined Lens in July 2025, bringing with him valuable experience from the Saudi Pro League and his professional tenure with AS Roma. His consistent performances have seen him establish himself as a regular starter for the French side.
Notably, Abdulhamid achieved the milestone of becoming the first Saudi player to feature in the French Ligue 1. He remains the only Saudi professional playing in Europe among the Saudi national team squad, which is set to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
