Astana: General Court of Audit (GCA) President Dr. Hussam Alangari and a number of GCA officials participated in the 63rd Meeting of the Governing Board of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), held today in Astana, Kazakhstan. The meeting was attended by heads of supreme audit institutions and members of the board from Asian member states.
According to Saudi Press Agency, GCA's participation underscores Saudi Arabia's active involvement in the Asian community of public-sector audit institutions. This is especially significant as Saudi Arabia prepares to assume the chairmanship of ASOSAI, beginning with the 17th ASOSAI General Assembly scheduled for September 2027 in Jeddah, under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
During the meeting, Dr. Alangari revealed details of the 17th General Assembly, launched the event's official website, and unveiled the official theme for the technical seminar accompanying the General Assembly: 'Elevating Public Audit Impact through Stakeholder Engagement'. These initiatives are part of Saudi Arabia's comprehensive preparations to ensure readiness for hosting leaders of member Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and more than 200 participants from 48 Asian SAIs and relevant international and regional organizations.
In his remarks, Dr. Alangari emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to utilizing its expertise and international standing to make the upcoming ASOSAI General Assembly an exceptional platform for fostering dialogue, strengthening cooperation, and contributing to the future of auditing among ASOSAI members and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). He expressed hope to collaborate with all organization members to develop a historic declaration, the "Jeddah Declaration", to shape the future of public sector auditing in Asia.
The meeting included a review of several reports, notably ASOSAI's strategic plan and professional capacity-building activities, and reports from working groups on crisis management, information technology, and data analysis. The meeting also addressed cooperation between ASOSAI, INTOSAI, and other regional organizations, alongside other agenda items.
Prior to the Governing Board meeting, an international scientific conference titled 'State Audit of the Future: Innovations, Digital Transformation, and Sustainable Development' convened. It included the GCA delegation, Asian delegations' heads and members, and representatives from several international organizations.
On the sidelines, the president of GCA held bilateral meetings with heads of peer supreme audit institutions from friendly Asian countries, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing joint efforts in financial and performance auditing.
