GCC Designates March 4 as Gulf Women’s Day Following Saudi Proposal

Jakarta:The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministers of social affairs and development have officially designated March 4 of each year as "Gulf Women's Day." This decision follows a proposal from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Family Affairs Council.

According to Saudi Press Agency, The initiative initially began in Kuwait within the GCC Standing Committee on Women's Affairs and received endorsement under the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This development underscores a collective regional commitment to acknowledging women's achievements and enhancing their significant contributions to family, society, and sustainable development across the Gulf.

The selection of March 4 as the date is symbolically linked to Article 4 of the GCC Charter, which emphasizes integration, coordination, and interdependence among member states. This highlights the role of women as vital partners in the Gulf's joint development efforts. Furthermore, the timing strategically positions regional milestones at the beginning of March, preceding International Women's Day on March 8.

The annual observance seeks to celebrate the unique achievements and shared identity of Gulf women in various fields, reinforcing their role in fostering regional cooperation and progress.
