Gulf Health Council Stresses Family’s Role in Promoting Health Awareness for Children and Adolescents

Riyadh: The Gulf Health Council highlighted the crucial role of the family in fostering health awareness among children and adolescents, emphasizing that healthy eating habits and physical activity start at home. Parents serve as the primary role models, and their daily actions are key to preventing obesity, boosting self-confidence, and promoting a positive self-image.

According to Saudi Press Agency, as part of its "Wazenha" awareness campaign, the council pointed out that obesity can manifest through early, noticeable signs such as excessive body weight, fatigue after physical exertion, or joint pain. Early intervention by the family is vital in preventing long-term health complications.

The council also stressed the importance of addressing the psychological well-being of children and adolescents. Obesity or negative comments about appearance can lead to low self-esteem, emotional eating, and social isolation. It emphasized that the messages children receive from their parents and community about their bodies shape their self-image and future attitudes toward health.

The council called for positive, supportive conversations about food, health, and appearance, encouraging parents to avoid criticism or comparisons. It urged the promotion of a healthy understanding of natural beauty, focusing on both psychological and physical balance.
