Riyadh: The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) has launched an audio summary of the book 'Lord of Arabia: Ibn Saud' by British author Harold Armstrong as part of an initiative that aims to provide concise, documented audio readings of prominent works that explored the life of the founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, through the testimonies of his contemporaries and their historical perspectives.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the book is considered one of the most prominent foreign works documenting the biography of King Abdulaziz, as it reviews the stages of his upbringing, his campaign to recapture Riyadh, and his efforts to unify Saudi Arabia. It also traces the political and military transformations in the Arabian Peninsula during the founding period, while highlighting his leadership, wisdom, and close ties with society.
The book holds particular documentary significance given the standing of its author, Harold Armstrong, as one of the prominent British writers interested in Middle Eastern history during that period, and his work as a journalist and researcher specializing in Arab affairs. He also visited the Kingdom and met King Abdulaziz in 1352 AH, which lends the book historical value through direct observation and close impressions of the formative stage of the modern Saudi state.
The audio summary reviews the main themes covered in the book, including King Abdulaziz's upbringing, his campaign to unify the country, his military and political roles, as well as his governing approach and efforts to establish the foundations of the state. It presents the content in a concise audio format designed to allow listeners to access the book's key ideas in an accessible and engaging way.
The initiative comes as part of Darah's efforts to employ digital media and audio productions to enrich national historical content and enhance access to historical knowledge through modern formats that expand the reach of beneficiaries inside and outside the Kingdom.
