Reno: The fast-spreading Hawk Fire moved from the foothills of the Sierra mountain range toward downtown Reno in the US state of Nevada early today, burning more than 10,500 acres. Authorities ordered the evacuation of around 14,000 homes. Emergency officials in Washoe County opened the Reno-Sparks Convention Center to evacuees.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in the state and mobilized the Nevada National Guard. Two helicopter crews were deployed to support aerial firefighting efforts, while 60 troops were assigned to assist police in protecting evacuated neighborhoods.
