Heritage Commission Discusses Due Diligence in Managing Cultural Collections

Riyadh: The Conference on Combating Trafficking in Cultural Property held an extensive scientific session on due diligence in cultural heritage and evolving practices, chaired by Shura Council Member and expert on Saudi heritage and antiquities Dr. Abdullah Al-Zahrani. The session gathered a distinguished group of international experts and researchers who discussed due diligence practices and the role of museums and research institutions in promoting transparency and ethical responsibility in managing cultural collections, while also reviewing international experiences in protecting movable heritage from trafficking.

According to Saudi Press Agency, participants stressed the importance of enhancing integration among legal, research, and technical frameworks to combat trafficking in cultural property. They called for establishing national and international systems to exchange information on suspected artifacts and for intensifying training and capacity-building programs for museum and research center professionals to ensure unified standards of due diligence and transparency in the management of collections.

The Heritage Commission stressed that the papers and discussions presented during the session represent an important step toward building effective international partnerships that help preserve human heritage and enhance the Kingdom's global presence, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
