Heritage Commission Uncovers 147 Architectural Units at Ra’s Qurayyah Port

al-ahsa: The Heritage Commission has concluded its second archaeological season at the Ra's Qurayyah Port in Al-Ahsa Governorate, Eastern Region, uncovering 147 architectural units, including large courtyards and ancient wells. This significant find adds a new dimension to the understanding of the area's historical landscape.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the site, located 26 km northwest of Al-Uqair Port, yielded important artifacts such as an Abbasid dirham minted in 148 AH, along with bronze ornaments and glazed pottery. These discoveries provide valuable insights into the trade and cultural exchanges that occurred in the region.

The timeline of the site, based on comparative analysis and organic sampling, spans from the pre-Islamic era through the early Islamic period and into the late 4th century AH. This range highlights the site's long-standing significance and its role in historical developments.

This discovery is in line with the national cultural strategy aimed at documenting the Kingdom's tangible heritage. It also seeks to strengthen Saudi Arabia's scientific and historical presence on a global scale, enhancing its cultural narrative.
