Qassim: Qassim Region is home to a wealth of historical landmarks that chronicle pivotal chapters in the history of the Saudi state, notably the Qurnas inscription and the historic Al-Rass tunnel, two monuments that serve as contemporary testimonies to defining moments witnessed by the region.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Qurnas inscription is attributed to Sheikh Qurnas bin Abdulrahman Al-Qurnas, whom Imam Turki bin Abdullah appointed as judge of Al-Rass. Through this inscription, he documented events from the final years of the First Saudi State, creating a valuable primary source that underscores the importance of recording history to preserve facts and illuminate the details of that era.
The historic Al-Rass tunnel stands as one of the governorate's most prominent landmarks, symbolizing the steadfastness of the town's residents during their confrontation with Ottoman forces and their resistance to a months-long siege. Portions of the tunnel remain today, embodying a living memory of courage and resilience.
In line with efforts to safeguard national heritage, the Heritage Commission has displayed replicas of the Qurnas inscription at the Cultural Heritage Center in Buraidah, where visitors can explore the region's past. The center regularly hosts national events, including Founding Day activities, to raise awareness of the enduring historical value of these landmarks.
