Industry Minister Elected President of UNIDO’s 21st General Conference

Riyadh: The General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) unanimously elected Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef as President of the UNIDO's 21st General Conference (GC21). The decision was made during the opening session held in Riyadh, reflecting the Kingdom's growing role in shaping the global industrial development agenda. Minister Alkhorayef's appointment was confirmed through a formal vote by the UNIDO General Conference, reflecting broad international consensus on his leadership of the current session.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the outgoing President of UNIDO General Conference Debora Lepre announced the decision to attendees, stating: 'Distinguished delegates, I am pleased to declare the unanimous election - by acclamation - of Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Bandar Alkhorayef as President of the 21st of the General Conference.'

In his address following his election, Alkhorayef underscored the importance of partnerships and innovation in shaping the future of industry. He expressed his honor at the confidence placed in him to lead UNIDO GC21, affirming his commitment to advancing global industrial cooperation, supporting inclusive and sustainable development, and ensuring that collective efforts deliver tangible benefits for all member states.

Minister Alkhorayef added that he would continue to build on the momentum of this session to shape a future in which industrial progress is driven by innovation, resilience, prosperity, and expanded opportunities across all regions.

As president of the current session, Alkhorayef will lead the high-level discussions at the GC21. His responsibilities include building consensus among member states on key issues such as sustainable supply chains and the governance of artificial intelligence in industry. He will also oversee the smooth handover of the presidency for the next conference session, ensuring continuity in UNIDO's strategic agenda beyond the Riyadh session.
