Riyadh: Experts discussed ways to translate ethical principles for artificial intelligence (AI) into national legislation, policies, strategies, institutional mechanisms, and operational procedures. These efforts aim to narrow the gap between ethical commitments and practical implementation and support the responsible development and use of AI technologies amid their growing impact on the economy and society.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the discussions took place during a panel organized by the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) titled "From Principles to Practice: Operationalizing Ethical AI Governance." The session was part of the program accompanying the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (GFEAI 2026), hosted in Riyadh from September 14 to 17, 2026, and brought together experts and specialists in AI, governance, and ethics.
Participants explored opportunities for joint action among countries and partners to make the responsible implementation of AI more practical and scalable. Discussions focused on linking ethical commitments to effective implementation tools, enhancing institutional readiness, supporting the adoption of trusted technologies, and building capabilities.
Participants also underscored the importance of international cooperation in maximizing the benefits of AI for individuals, businesses, and countries and contributing to global dialogue on AI governance from a practical, implementation-oriented perspective.
