Riyadh: At the Saudi International Handicrafts Week (Banan), where the Kingdom's regions showcase their rich and evolving heritage, craftswoman Umm Yahya from Jazan introduces visitors to one of the oldest traditional crafts: weaving the Jizani taqiyah (head cap).
According to Saudi Press Agency, Umm Yahya remarked, 'The Jizani taqiyah embodies Jazan's cultural heritage, cherished and preserved by families across generations.' She explained that each cap is unique, requiring meticulous attention to detail and reflecting the artistry, care, and patience. Made from pure yarn with basic tools, the taqiyah holds significant cultural value.
Umm Yahya, who inherited the craft from her mother, grandmother, and neighbors, believes that each cap she creates carries a story and symbolizes the enduring heritage of southern Saudi Arabia.
