Jeddah Astronomy Society: Crescent of Jumada Al-Awwal to Adorn Western Horizon Tonight

Jeddah: The crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Jumada Al-Awwal will appear after sunset today, shining over the western horizon and offering skywatchers across the Arab world a view to observe and photograph.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Jeddah Astronomy Society Director Majed Abu Zahra noted that the central conjunction, marking the moon's transition from west to east of the sun and signaling the start of a new lunar month, occurred on Tuesday at 3:25 p.m. Makkah time.

He said that as the moon gradually moves away from the sun's glare, it will appear clearer and more luminous than the previous night. The moon's altitude will increase each evening as its illuminated portion grows, providing an opportunity to witness the Earthshine phenomenon, where the dark side of the moon appears faintly lit by sunlight reflected from Earth's surface.
