Jeddah: The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Ministry of Sport, hosted a symposium yesterday in Jeddah on "youth empowerment in the member states via video games and social media: prospects and challenges," inaugurated by Assistant Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Sport Ahmed Alghimlas.
According to Saudi Press Agency, following the recent Esports World Cup in the Kingdom, Alghimlas highlighted that the symposium serves as a catalyst for leveraging the societal and economic benefits of video games and social media. He emphasized that these platforms offer significant opportunities for success and impact, and that sharing knowledge and best practices remains a key priority.
UNA Director General Mohammed Al-Yami noted that video games have become a major influence on families and youth, stressing the need for a collective approach to harness their benefits and mitigate the risks associated with this large industry. He also praised Saudi Arabia's leadership in the sector, including the establishment of the Esports World Cup Foundation.
OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social, and Cultural Affairs Ambassador Tarig Bakheet congratulated the Kingdom on its successful hosting of the world's largest esports tournament. He also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom's initiative to host the upcoming Sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in November 2025.
