Makkah: King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) in Makkah, a key institution within the Makkah Health Cluster, achieved a major medical milestone by successfully performing a complex heart surgery using the state-of-the-art Da Vinci Surgical System robot. The procedure involved intricate repair work on the tricuspid valve leaflets and placement of a stabilizing ring, an operation made possible through cutting-edge robotic technology, marking a significant leap in high-precision, minimally invasive cardiac care.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the patient had been suffering from severe tricuspid valve regurgitation, a condition that had caused persistent symptoms and disrupted his daily life. Using robotic assistance, the surgical team completed the operation through four small incisions, each no larger than 1 centimeter, eliminating the need for a traditional open-chest approach.

The Makkah Health Cluster emphasized the advantages of robotic surgery, including enhanced precision, minimal tissue disruption, reduced postoperative pain, lower risk of complications, and significantly faster recovery times. The surgery was declared a success, with the patient showing immediate signs of recovery. He was removed from mechanical ventilation shortly after the operation and transferred to the intensive care unit in stable condition, where he remains under close observation.
